Session Description: Addresses the strategic use of collections to 1) more efficiently identify useful accessions from genotypic and phenotypic data and trait-environment associations, and 2) develop and identify lines and alleles through in situ adaptation to changing climatic and biotic stresses. Both goals may be addressed through GRIN-Global, FIGS, GENESYS, or other approaches that use phenotypic, genotypic, and environmental data. The second goal could include a "common garden" approach at a crop's center of origin where wild accessions, landraces, etc. interbreed while adapting to changing conditions. Such an approach is in the early stages of development and calls for discussion and critique.
