Session Description: Phylogenetic surveys of soil have show that the microorganisms found in one sample exceeds those that can be cultured. Soil metagenomics involves isolation soil DNA and creating can be used to elucidate uncultivable microorganisms. This approach has led to the identification of novel microorganisms and biomolecules. Soil metagenomics is a promising field that will provide needed information on microbial diversity and function to better understand the role of the microbial community in ecosystem function.
