Abstract:
The goal of this research is to examine the environmental performance of various cropping systems with the potential to produce liquid transportation fuels. Cropping systems range from traditional crops such as continuous corn and a corn-soybean rotation, to newer crops such as switchgrass, miscanthus, and hybrid poplar. Data from the GLBRC (Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center) Biofuel Intensive Sites (located in Hickory Corners, MI and Arlington, WI) will be used to create models in the life cycle assessment (LCA) program GaBi 6.0.
