Panel Discussion of Next Generation Science Standards With K-12 Educators.

This presentation is a panel discussion intended to inspire action based on ideas presented by the preceding speakers in this session. The focus of the panel will be to discuss ways in which scientists can most effectively work with classroom teachers to incorporate agronomy, crop, and soil sciences into their lesson plans to meet state and national science education standards. Panelists are current science educators from local K-12 schools in both urban and rural communities. The panel will also include representation from Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, a non-profit organization that trains and educates teachers in agricultural curricula and that aims to increase incorporation of agricultural concepts into K-12 education. The panelists’ focus will be to discuss how the Next Generation Science Standards will impact teachers’ lessons and their potential interaction with scientists. Most importantly, panelists will address questions from session attendees.
