Abstract:
Both supply and demand of gypsum for agricultural use have been growing dramatically in recent years. This paper will address the reasons for this growth and the growing opportunity to beneficially use FGD gypsum, a byproduct of scrubbing emissions from coal fired power plants, as an agricultural nutrient and soil amendment. Also addressed will be the challenges of creating an effective distribution network capable of linking supplies of FGD gypsum from utilities with progressive growers changing their farming practices to include regular use of gypsum.
