Abstract:
The U.S. Borlaug Fellows in Global Food Security Program, administered by the Center for Global Food Security at Purdue University and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was launched in 2012 to prepare the next generation of young scientists and engineers who can effectively tackle the growing complexity around the global food security agenda. The program awards grants to exceptional graduate students, interested in international experience, to conduct dissertation research in developing countries and in collaboration with a developing country International Agricultural Research Center (IARC) or a National Agricultural Research System (NARS) unit and mentor. We anticipate the program will lay the foundation for launching new, strategic, trans-disciplinary, and long-term collaborative research in food and natural resource systems for the students, their affiliated academic advisors, and IARC/NARS mentors. This session will provide an overview of the program structure, objective and goals.
