Abstract:
The USA Rice Federation will address ongoing cooperative research between the rice industry and government to address the ongoing issue of arsenic in rice. Specifically we will touch on research into lower arsenic-accumulating cultivars that are adaptable to the various rice growing regions of the U.S., and water management techniques thought to reduce arsenic uptake and their effect on yield, GHG emissions, disease and other metal and nutrient uptake. We will discuss additional but important issues such as the responsible release of information by the government, scientists and activist groups; public perception; and interaction with the media during a "food crisis".
