Abstract:
Bartholdi Park, located at the foot of Capital Hill in Washington, DC, has been functioning as an urban oasis since 1932. We present the results of soil quality and soil biology analyses of samples taken from various landscape uses within the park: mixed perennial beds, turf, tree-lawn and (newly established) raingarden. These data characterize soil variables before a renovation according to guidelines of the Sustainable Sites Initiative, which has been developed by the U.S. Botanic Garden, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
