Greenhouse Gas Dynamics in Soil Columns Under Soil Sterilization With Hot Water.

In recent years, attention to soil sterilization with hot water is growing in Japan. The hot water soil disinfection is environmental impact because the disinfection requires no chemical substances. In addition, salt removal effect and weed control effect of the hot water disinfection soil has been reported. However, greenhouse gases mass occurs when soil sterilization with hot water has been reported, which is becoming a major issue. We have investigated the dynamics of greenhouse gas soil sterilization with hot water in the field experiment until last year. Although, those were difficult in the field that the experiment condition setting and doing the experiment repeatedly. In this study, we artificially are going to reproduce the soil sterilization with hot water using soil columns. We will try to do the verification for multi-faceted impact on greenhouse gas dynamics due to soil sterilization with hot water. We will pack soil that is set to 0.5 and 0.2 the initial volumetric water content into separately soil columns. Silicon tubing gas samplers and TDR probes will be set in the columns. The boiling water ( 95℃ ) will be poured into the columns. We plan to investigate water movement and heat transfer and greenhouse gas concentrations (CH4, CO2 and N2O) in the column before and after sprinkle hot water.
