Nitrogen management recommendations in corn (Zea mays) are continuously evolving with emphasis on nutrient management, nitrogen use efficiency and the various environmental considerations related to air and water quality perspective.  When applying anhydrous ammonia, growers in the U.S. have come to rely on co-application of N-Serve® to maintain more nitrogen in the root zone.  N-Serve allows growers the opportunity to maximize corn yields by reducing the effects of nitrogen losses through leaching or denitrification.  With the 2009 introduction of Instinct®, the nitrapyrin 1.85 lb/gallon CS formulation, in corn, Dow AgroSciences was able to deliver this suite of benefits to the liquid fertilizer, liquid manure and urea nitrogen fertilizer segments.  Research trials have been established over the past five years with universities and in grower strip trials to demonstrate environmental and yield benefits across varying soil types, fertilizer types, fertilizer rates and cultural practices.  The reported summary of trial results demonstrates the positive impacts of Instinct nitrogen stabilizer on corn yields and nitrogen retention in the root zone as well as reductions of environmental losses of fertilizer nitrogen.
