Sponsored by Campbell Scientific. John L. Monteith, who passed away in July 2012, had a long and fruitful career developing and applying physical principles to water management in agricultural production and environmental problems. His work was very wide-ranging and included contributions in micrometeorology, soil physics, surface water and energy balances, and the interactions between the environment and field crops, horticultural crops, forests and animals in production settings. The Penman-Monteith equation, a tool used in irrigation scheduling and other applications, is known and used all over the world, as is his text, “Principles of Environmental Physics.” This Symposium will pay tribute to John L. Monteith by highlighting recent research influenced by his legacy.
