Session Description: Rapid development of reliable and low-cost networked field-based sensor systems is transforming water management in agricultural settings. Emerging systems are enabling development of water management decision support tools, effective management of large and small irrigated fields and equipment control. Wide adoption of these systems will require solving challenges integrating sensor data to improve modeling and mapping of evapotranspiration (ET) at local and field scales, development of robust sensor deployment strategies, and selection of appropriate sensor technologies. Presentations with linkages to topics solicited under co-sponsoring community 'Biophysical Measurements and Sensors' are especially encouraged. This symposium will focus on these topics with emphasis on sensor systems seeking effective water management.

Presentations on other related topics, including practical ways to design, deploy, and manage sensor networks and their data output are welcome.

Reviewer's Comments: Biophysical Measurements and Sensors community has agreed to co-sponsor this proposed session. In addition we are jointly proposing a graduate student poster session for sensor systems. -AF
