Session Description: Cloud computing technology (CCT) is changing communication and technology implementation in our society.  Agriculture generally lags in its adoption, purportedly due to the greater communication challenges in field environments, the generally smaller-scale size of ag businesses, and the overall more conservative attitudes in the agricultural industry and research communities.  However, CCT and Big Data analysis is now rapidly entering the industry out of necessity to examine relationships among agricultural variables.  These variables range from field data collected across industry and university sponsored regional studies that represent numerous locations to genetic traits for various crops.  These new technologies and data analysis approaches offer increased opportunities for more efficient and environmentally compatible production practices.  This also requires the successful development of enabling industries, which is now occurring.
