ABSTRACT WITHDRAWN

Abstract:
The Cavode, Brinkerton, and Armagh series are hydric soils that have been extensively mapped (2.9 million hectares) within the Allegheny Plateau region of the Northeastern United States (USDA-NRCS MLRA 127); the majority of the region’s palustrine wetlands include at least one of these three soils. The legacy of landscape change across the region leaves many questions as to how these hydric soils and their SOC stocks have responded to long-term, varied disturbance. Our goal is to examine the historical ecosystem change these soils have experienced via the development of Ecological Site and State and Transition Models for associated wetland systems. We present initial geomorphic models developed to improve the mapping of the three target hydric soils and their potentially ecologically significant wetlands. These models were derived from 10 m and 1 m LIDAR digital elevation terrain model data sets. An evaluation of model accuracy in relation to field collected data is also presented.
