The Human Dimensions of Agro-ecosystem Resilience in an Uncertain World: Livelihood Decisions, Uncertainty, and Translational Approaches

Climate change and global environmental and economic drivers have an impact on the outcomes of people's decisions.  Often the interaction among all these drivers creates an uncertain context in which people make decisions about farming and other economic and livelihood activities. Understanding how these interactions play out at the individual, household, community, and ecosystem levels is necessary in order to identify strategies and the knowledge required to create a resilient system that contributes to livelihoods and wellbeing.  This is especially critical in contexts where no fall back institutions are in place when the uncertainty translates into risk to the livelihoods of people.  This presentation addresses the issues of decisions in contexts of uncertainty and insecurity, and translational research approaches that build knowledge and trust for adaptation.
