Soil Building: A Path to Efficient Nitrogen Management?.

"Soil building" is a term frequently used to generically describe management practices designed to improve soil tilth and increase soil organic matter in "sustainable" farming systems.   This presentation will highlight what is known about the release of plant-available mineral nitrogen via mineralization processes in maritime Pacific Northwest soils.   Selected short term and long term trials will be discussed.   Knowledge gaps will be identified with an eye toward stimulating productive research and modeling for the future.
