351 Symposium--Benefits and Barriers to Data Sharing
Oral Session
Special SessionsThe purpose of this symposium is to inform the ASA members about the benefits and barriers to sharing scientific data. The symposium will include presentations by four scientists with different experiences sharing data. A scientist from a scientific society will speak about the process their society experienced when deciding to require publishing of data underlying findings in their journal articles, and the benefits and barriers to data sharing expressed by scientists in the society. The benefits of data sharing will be discussed by a scientist based on their personal experience, and two scientists will show results of recent surveys of scientists that describe the benefits and barriers to data sharing. A panel discussion with the authors to allow the audience time to discuss information presented by the authors will complete the symposium.
