Format: Poster Topical Session
Keywords: Environmental quality, N fertilizer, N leaching and N2O emissions

Session Description: Nitrogen is a major limiting nutrient in crop production. As a result, substantial amounts of N fertilizer are applied to sustain and/or increase yields. Consequently this has major environmental implications, such as N leaching into groundwater and N2O emission. Agricultural practices contribute about 70% of global N2O emissions. This session will address agricultural management options, such as rates and types of N fertilization, cover cropping, crop rotation, fallow management, tillage, etc. that increase N-use efficiency, reduce N losses via emission or leaching, and sustain crop yields and quality. Graduate student submissions are eligible to compete for cash awards.
