Keywords: Animal, Bacteria, Insect-microbe associations and Manure microbiology
Session Description: Animal manure and manure-impacted environments have large and diverse insect and microbial populations. Recent research has emphasized the importance of both to agricultural production and safety. Characterization and control of insects and bacteria associated with manures is therefore important to sustainable management and use of livestock manure. The purpose of this symposium is to explore the topic of animal manure from an integrated perspective incorporating both microbiology and entomology. Topics include but are not limited to: manure microbiology, insect inhabitants, insect-microbe associations and management of pest species.
