Session Description: Benefits associated with cover crops are numerous, but constraints, such as short growing seasons due to climate and associated cropping sequence, may not always allow benefits to be maximized across cropping systems with existing varieties.  Some breeding efforts are on-going to enhance various species, but critical needs should be identified to help guide future trait modifications across various species.  Invited speakers were chosen to provide a perspective on critical needs in cover crop systems, present an overview of current breeding programs, and identify areas where future breeding efforts can deliver the most impact across a range of cover crop species.
