Abstract:
The Oklahoma State Univeristy Agronomy Club strives to promote awareness about agronomy and soil sciences in the local community. With this year being the International Year of the Pulse, we decided to celebrate by teaching young students about pulses. Along with teaching about pulses, we chose to incorporate several Oklahoma Math Standards into the lesson plan to give young students a real world application. The OSU Agronomy Club traveled to 5th grade classrooms in the community of Stillwater, Oklahoma to show students what pulses are, as well as apply several math concepts to measure and graph data on pulses. We hope that providing the students with hands-on activities and by teaching them about pulses, that they will be inspired to pursue fields in agriculture and STEM.
