Abstract:
The USDA organic regulations include specific requirements that maintain and improve soil and water quality, conserve biodiversity, and minimize the use of toxic substances in crop and livestock production. The NOP is the regulatory program that ensures compliance with these requirements. Organic agriculture supports economic development that benefits local economies and economic well-being, key principles of sustainable agriculture.
