Abstract:
Recovery yield through the dehulling process is vital for the red lentil industry. Genotype plays an important role for processing quality attributes of lentil. The objective of the study was to determine the genetic basis for milling quality of lentil. A total of 130 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) of the LR-18 (CDC Robin x 946a-46) population were assessed for milling and seed quality in two growing seasons (2013 and 2014) at two locations in Saskatchewan, Canada. Lentil quantitative traits related to seed attributes (seed diameter, thickness and plumpness) and milling recovery yield (dehulling efficiency, milling and football recovery) were detected using a total of 547 SNPs, 10 SSR and four morphological markers ((yc, Ggc, Tgc and Scp). These markers were used to construct a linkage map. QTLs were detected using single markers and confirmed through interval and composite interval mapping using Map QTL 6.0. The result showed QTL governing seed dimension, football recovery and plumpness were clustered in linkage group 1 and 7 while milling recovery yield were clustered in linkage group 5 and 7. One morphological marker yc (yellow cotyledon color) was associated with most of traits. QTL associated with these traits were stable.
