Abstract:
The Texas A&M University Agronomy Society hosted the 1stAnnual Aggie Corn Maze in Fall 2015.  Club members planned, organized, and ran the event which was a tremendous success impacting diverse populations across campus and the local area.  Even though challenged by inclement weather, primarily rain causing muddy fields, the maze welcomed over 1,500 visitors including students, families, and church and school groups.  Several university organizations attended, with one having a race through the maze.  There was also a pumpkin patch, agricultural equipment on display, and several hand-on demonstrations for visitors to learn about agronomy, crops, and soils. The maze was featured in multiple forms of media including newspapers, television stations, and journals including USA Today, The Houston Chronicle, and The Eagle.  Television stations in Houston, Dallas and Bryan/College Station ran news stories about the maze.  This publicity helped document the Club’s and Texas A&M University’s commitment to education and research through agriculture.  Corn and other crops including cotton, sorghum, and cowpeas, have been planted for the Fall 2016 maze which promises to attract even more visitors and have a larger impact on expanding agricultural awareness.
