As an agency, the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) works with farmers to provide technical and financial assistance with the planning and implementation of conservation practices. These practices address natural resource concerns or opportunities to help save energy, improve soil, water, plant, air, animal and related resources on working agricultural lands. Advancing nutrient management planning and addressing growing concerns about the environmental impacts of nutrients lost from agricultural systems are two ongoing challenges for NRCS. By offering voluntary, non-regulatory services, NRCS along with our partners, including Technical Service Providers (TSPs) and Certified Crop Advisors (CCAs), have an opportunity to make great strides in conservation efforts related to nutrient management. Developing nutrient management plans using the current NRCS Nutrient Management (590) Conservation Practice Standard can be a way to assist farmers in addressing local natural resource concerns on their farm, while also improving nutrient use efficiency. Learn about common mistakes made in developing nutrient management plans for NRCS programs and how to avoid them in the future.
