Abstract:
Around the world, signs of water trouble abound – from more severe floods and droughts to dried-up rivers, shrinking lakes and depleted groundwater. The warming of the planet is altering the global water cycle, such that the past will not be a good guide to the future. The question arises: can we meet the food, energy and water needs of our growing population, while at the same time sustaining the ecosystems that support our economies and the web of life on the planet?  The answer is yes, but will require a transformation in how we use, manage, and value freshwater.
