Abstract:

Many pesticide labels have application procedures or other application information. This information is to obtain the best pesticide efficacy while managing spray drift. To assist pesticide applicators, the 2016 Guide for Weed, Disease and Insect Management in Nebraska (EC130) has three pages, double columns on what is listed in the herbicide labels for either recommended or required spray droplet size (or sizes) for application. Along with the droplet size is listed the carrier rate (GPA) on the label. One additional page with double columns lists the information for insecticides and fungicides. Table 1 has the top portion of the first page on herbicides.

Table 1.  Pesticides listing the recommended or required spray droplet size and carrier rate on the label.

Always check label before applying.

*That provides coverage and control.  M = medium; C = coarse; VC = very coarse.

For nozzle tip selection and pressure to obtain the recommended or required spray droplet size, the Guide (EC130) has 10 charts: medium, coarse, very coarse at 10 GPA; extremely coarse and ultra coarse at 15 GPA; and medium, coarse, very coarse, extremely coarse and ultra coarse spray droplet sizes at 20 GPA. Two additional charts include glyphosate at 10 GPA and fungicide and insecticides at 15 and 20 GPA. The charts include 15, 20 and 30 inch nozzle spacing and speeds at 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 and 14 mph.
