Abstract:
Crystallization inhibitors delay the precipitation of salts in porous media. In some conditions, salts will instead effloresce above an evaporating surface. The effloresced salts are then accessible to remove without disturbing the porous media. The authors present here a new approach for remediating brine-contaminated soils with the use of the crystallization inhibitor hexacyanoferrate. Data from laboratory column studies and two field trials will be presented.
