Title: Urban Soil Restoration and Rehabilitation Oral (includes student competition)

Session Description: Urban soils are characterized by several archetypal disturbance patterns. Missing horizons, compaction, and construction debris are common in newly developed areas, while heavy metal accumulation may be common in areas with older developments. These and other soil disruptions resulting from urbanization have created a demand for restoring soils to an approximation of 'natural' conditions, or rehabilitating them to increase their ecosystem service provision and function. We invite papers that quantify changes in physical, chemical, or biological properties in this context or that explore approaches for soil restoration and discuss opportunities for managing urban soil in the context of functional processes. Potential topics may include ecosystem service provision, methods, management, policy, monitoring, or case studies documenting site histories or characteristics and restoration outcomes.
