Abstract:
Under semi-arid conditions of Western US, the production and resource use efficiency of any cropping systems depend on the careful managenent considerations of limited water. Planning water for various seasons in a cropping system to maximize the production efficiency needs a detailed understanding of water avaialability for the season, crop selection, and yield expectation at a given amount of water. A study was conducted at Agricultural Science Center, Tucumcari, NM during 2016 and 2017 to evaluate the water use and yield potential of 11 summer and 7 winter cover crops under both irrigated and dryland conditions. The research is in progress for 2017. The results will be discussed in poster.
