Abstract:
Over recent decades, agriculture has made several advancements relating to seed technology, plant trait technology, and sustainable usage of valuable resources. Agriculture is under ever increasing scrutiny due to people’s opinions regardless of scientific facts. The purpose of the University Tennessee at Martin Agronomy Club is to reach out to the student body and the general public and educate based on scientific facts. Throughout the academic year, the organization attends several meetings in which we collaborate with other universities and professionals on how to better educate ourselves and the public on current agriculture issues. The club also hosts several professionals to bi-weekly meetings to gain insight on leading research and professional advice on topics current students are facing. Finally, the club assists with the Earth Day Celebration at Discovery Park in Union City, Tennessee to further educate the general public on environmental stewardship and agriculture. Through this event, we host several stations on general knowledge, soil paintings, pH testing to show the public the difference in soils found throughout the United States and explain why the soils are different.
