Abstract:
A survey of Introductory Soil Science (or equivalent) instructors at 2-year and 4-year institutions was conducted to collect information about the current state of Introductory Soil Science course offerings in the United States. Data collected from this survey included information on course content, pedagogies, and audience. In particular, we focus our analysis of these results on the influence of institution type and region-specific trends in approaches to Introductory Soil Science courses. Additionally, the survey results reveal the size and characteristics of the student audience for Introductory Soil Science in the U.S. The results of this survey will serve as a resource to 1) improve general knowledge of the diversity of materials, methods and pedagogies utilized to teach Introductory Soil Science (or equivalent) courses in the U.S., 2) assist instructors or institutions in the process of revising or reviewing their Introductory Soil Science courses, and 3) identify opportunities for cross-institutional cooperation or the development of multi-user course materials and resources.
