Abstract:
The Salton Sea is the largest inland lake in California, totaling more than 375 square miles in Imperial and Riverside counties. The Water Transfer Project has reduced Sea elevations causing, Sea floor exposure creating significant environmental concerns including, air quality (dust generated from exposed playa), loss of critical avian and fish habitat, and degraded water quality. The objective of our study is to develop an inventory of the exposed playa using state-of-art high through-put technologies and utilize this information in the developing dust control adaptive measures.
