243 Symposium--Sea Level Rise Impacts on Coastal Soil Quality and Nutrient Dynamics
Oral Session
ASA Section: Environmental QualitySea level rise and the associated increases in salinity, tidal inundation, and extreme events can have dramatic effects on the functioning of a variety of coastal ecosystems, ranging from subtidal to intertidal. In addition to macro-scale shifts in coastal flora and fauna, significant chemical, physical, and biological changes are also occurring within the soils and sediments (e.g., changes in microbial community composition and function, nutrient cycling, soil quality, etc.), which feedback into ecosystem function. This session will focus on sea level rise affects on coastal soil properties, processes, and nutrient dynamics.
