ASA Section: Environmental QualityWith a growing demand and requirement for water quality improvements across the country, the nutrient management planning landscape is evolving from a voluntary best management practice to that of a regulatory requirement enforceable by local, state, and federal agencies. This session will investigate: Different regulatory approaches around the country; How 3rd party lawsuits are being used; What regulations mean for agronomists and farmers; Research opportunities / information gaps - How science is – or isn’t – being utilized; The economics of nutrient imbalances Farmer opportunities inside stiffer regulation - Water quality trading, cost-share programs.
