Managing Global Resources for a Secure Future

2017 Annual Meeting | Oct. 22-25 | Tampa, FL

372 Soil Health Assessment and Tools

Oral Session
SSSA Division: Soil and Water Management and Conservation
Maintaining a healthy and productive soil is the foundation of sustainable agriculture. However, a majority of producers are unaware of the importance of managing soil health. Moreover, soil health assessment based on different approaches, indicators, tools, scales and interpretations offered by the university and private labs often provide conflicting test results. For example, the same soil evaluated for soil health indicators by different labs often produced different results. This session will discuss soil health assessment and interpretation of results to make recommendations on fertilizer applications, tillage practices, crop rotations with cover crops, and other management practices.
