Session Description: Soil chemistry plays an important role in food security and protection of human health.  Nutrient and contaminant chemical reactions between soil solids, the soil solution and the atmosphere influence both plant growth and quality of our food, air and water. With rapidly growing global food demand, it is extremely important to focus on intensifying food production from marginal or underperforming cropland in an environmentally sustainable manner. This symposium highlights studies of soil chemical constituents, chemical properties, or chemical reactions for more efficient, sustainable, and/or nutrient-rich/contaminant-free food production and protection of soil, water, and human health.
