Title: Approaching Peak Phosphorus and Seeking Alternatives: Linking Reuse, Speciation, and Availability Poster (includes student competition)

Organizers: James A. Ippolito , Daniel G. Strawn and Deb P. Jaisi
Lead Community Sponsor:
Community Cosponsor: Nutrient Management Professionals Community
Format: Poster Topical Session
Keywords: novel reuse strategies, phosphorus fertilizer, phosphorus recovery and phosphorus speciation

Session Description: Mankind utilizes ever increasing P fertilizers, a finite resource derived solely from phosphate rocks; as a planet we are quickly approaching peak P utilization.  Alternative approaches such as P recovery and capture onto potential P fertilizer or technological developments enhancing P utilization are desperately needed.  This session aims to link advanced research methods on P speciation to better understand availability and showcase novel means of P recovery and reuse from soils and agricultural and industrial wastes.
