Session Description: Soil physical property sensing forms a backbone for agricultural and environmental research. Novel sensors and instrumentation are being developed as well as expanded applications to support research, management and decision making. Traditional soil property sensing devices for bulk soil-dielectric permittivity, -electrical conductivity and -temperature continue to improve. In addition, novel measurement instruments continue to be developed with expanded applications beyond soil properties to include hydrological and thermal processes of interest and beyond. This session will include speakers presenting research where advanced sensing and measurement technology is being developed and applied to soil physical property and process assessment.
