Session: Germination Genomics Oral

Division: C04 Seed Physiology, Production and Technology

Title: Germination Genomics Oral

Organizer: J. Mitchell McGrath
Lead Community Sponsor:
Cosponsor: C04 Seed Physiology, Production and Technology
Community Cosponsor: Bioinformatics in Crops and Soils Community
Format: Oral Topical Session
Keywords: gene expression, germination and seed development

Session Description: Germination typically begins with seed hydration, followed by biochemical activity, and then growth. Resumption of growth following dehydration is common to seeds, and the steps needed to produce an autotrophic plant from this quiescent state can be perplexing. This session will seek to describe imbibition and germination via large scale gene expression technologies and provide tangible examples where genomics may provide insight into the germination process. The goal is to establish where is the state-of-the-art in germination, and where genomic insights might add to our understanding of germination and stand establishment.
