Session Description: Sustainable intensification (SI) of farming systems is essential to address the grand challenge of increasing production of nutritious and safe food, while safeguarding the environment. Research on agronomic, genetic, ecological and social components of SI along with building enabling environments through appropriate policy is a prerequisite for success. The goal of this symposium will be to have a dialogue to share global success stories and examples of interventions that have effectively used principles of SI to address food and nutritional security. Reasons for success and how to create enabling environments for SI interventions will be presented and discussed.
