Session Description: The grand challenge of increasing production of nutritious and safe food requires a systems and multidisciplinary approach. Sustainable intensification (SI) focuses on increasing food production from existing farmland without adverse environmental impact. Research on genetic, ecological and social components of SI along with creating enabling environments through appropriate policy is a prerequisite for success. Transdisciplinary approaches that integrate social and natural sciences and use participatory approaches, with clear pathways towards improving health (soil, plant, animal and human) can help with SI of agriculture. This poster session will display examples of SI innovations to enhance food production and environmental quality.
