Session Description: Emerging contaminants include a myriad of unconventional contaminants that are typically not regulated or routinely monitored, including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, engineered nanoparticles, antibiotic resistance genes, etc. The occurrence, distribution, transformation, fate and transport on emerging contaminants in soil, water and plant systems are critical to accurate assessment of their environmental and health risk and impact. This symposium will present contributions from physical, chemical and biological perspectives on environmental processes and impacts of emerging contaminants in soil, water and plant systems, as well as mitigation and remedial strategies for minimizing potential risks from emerging contaminants.
