Session Description: The symposium's ambition is to present and discuss novel ideas to address a major challenge: How to leverage knowledge in physiology (defined in its broadest sense) to deliver drought-tolerant crops? The scientific literature is rich in reports pointing to molecular, biochemical and biophysical processes putatively related to crop drought tolerance. Yet, translating those processes into "€˜functional traits"€™; i.e., traits that mechanistically explain superior, economically-viable yields under water deficit conditions remains a major challenge.
