Session Description: Despite its modest abundance, there is a growing recognition that Mn plays an outsized role in controlling redox conditions in soils and aquifers. For example, oxidized Mn may serve as redox shuttle that facilitates breakdown of organic carbon in soils or a redox buffer that inhibits solubilization of redox-active contaminants in aquifers. We welcome submissions that focus on coupled redox biogeochemistry of Mn with an emphasis on control the cycling of other elements.
