Session Description: Nutrient and contaminant chemical reactions between soil solids, the soil solution and the atmosphere affect not only plant growth but quality of our food, air and water and human health. Soil often interacts with trace elements to enhance micronutrient plant nutrition but can also reduce excessive availability and toxicity. This session focusses on soil chemical constituents, soil chemical properties, and/or chemical reactions that promote efficient, sustainable, nutrient-rich/contaminant-free food production and/or protection of soil, water, and human health from contaminants. Focus will also include soil chemistry and its effect on exposure to human though relevant exposure pathways.
