Format: Oral Symposium
Keywords: climate change, emerging diseases , health and wetland processes

Session Description: Changing climate has affected coastal and inland wetland environments via altered dynamics surrounding a wetland’s hydrogeomorphic relationship to precipitation, temperature, flora and fauna. Changing wetland dynamics in coastal environments have resulted in the loss of former wetlands and the evolution of new ones at the fringes of rising sea level. Changing inland precipitation patterns have resulted in shifting annual water table dynamics and warmer temperatures have altered biogeochemical/biotic-specific wetland processes. Where biota interact with these wetland systems, human and animal health can be adversely affected by emerging diseases that favorably respond via expansion/infection.
