Session Description: In the past decade, new mineralogical methods have been developed. Because this progress has happened in disparate fields it has limited the application to these methods in soil mineralogical questions. The goal of this session is bringing together diverse research disciplines to highlight new applications and techniques for soil mineralogy. Contributions involving optical, electron, and atomic force microscopy, XRD, XRF, XANES, Nano-SIMS, reflectance spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, LIBS, TGA, surface area determination, miniaturization of instrumentation, reduction of analysis time and cost, and advances in sample preparation including thin section and grain mounting for soil mineralogy are welcome.
