Session Description: Smallholder farmers in mixed crop-livestock systems currently produce about half of the world's food, especially for the millions of poor people in the global tropics. Given population growth and changing consumer demands, these mixed systems will be critically important for future food security. Most of these systems in Latin America and Africa are rain fed and thus exposed to climate threats. The session seeks to discuss and learn more about the interactions between crops and livestock, and how these interactions can contribute to environmentally sustainable intensification, diversification and better risk management in times of changing climatic conditions.
