Session Description: Recent efforts have worked toward making fundamental changes to Soil Taxonomy to maintain the original goal of the document as a basic system of soil classification, and to increase its use and efficiency. Proposed changes include redefining certain diagnostic horizons and epipedons, how organic soil materials are defined, where soil moisture regimes are used in the hierarchy, and development of new soil orders for wet soils and soils formed in anthropogenic or human-transported materials. This topical session provides a forum to present and discuss such changes.
